Conference “Control Theory and Mathematical Modeling”

1The conference was dedicated to the memory of Evgeny Leonidovich Tonkov, the founder of the Izhevsk Mathematical School on Control Theory, and to the memory of Professor Nikolai Viktorovich Azbelev.

Among the conference participants were researchers from 20 regions, in particular, from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorov, and from other cities of Russia. Participants from Canada, Belorus and Uzbekistan also joined the conference. 125 talks and 165 participants were announced for the conference. The conference was held for three days in person and online at the Udmurt State University.

The welcome speech was held by A.M. Makarov, Pro-rector for Scientific Work and Strategic Development Programs of the Udmurt State University, V.N.Ushakov, Co-Chairman of the Program Committee, Corresponding Member of the Krasovskii Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ural Branch of RAS, and by Professor V. P. Maksimov, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics.

It should be noted that the conference was organized to honor the memory of great scientists who had made a considerable contribution to the development of mathematics in Udmurtia and in other regions of Russia and abroad. Evgeny Leonidovich Tonkov established good relations not only with the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ural Branch of RAS, but also with foreign colleagues, in particular, with those from Minsk, where he had defended his dissertation. The legacy that E.L.Tonkov had left behind made it possible to establish the Laboratory of Mathematical Control Theory at the Udmurt State University under the guidance of his pupil V.A. Zaitsev. To date, the laboratory has become part of the Ural Mathematical Center and has been included in one of the projects of the 2030 Priority Program. On E.L. Tonkov’s initiative, the following journals have been founded: “Bulletin of Udmurt University. Mathematics. Mechanics. Computer Sciences” and “Proceedings of the Institute of Mathematics and Information Science at Udmurt State University». These journals have been entered in the Web of Science and Scopus core collection databases.

In 1954, Nikolai Viktorovich Azbelev launched a seminar series entitled “Izhevsk Mathematical Seminar” at the Izhevsk Mechanical Institute. Later, the Udmurt State University was chosen as the venue for these seminars, which are held here to serve as an example of creative longevity and fruitful cooperation between universities and other scientific organizations.
